Tumblr of the Week: Scribblings

Is there a name for that feeling of wishing you could jump into an art piece? I'm feeling it right now as I scroll through maruti-bitamin's Tumblr. I'd love to step into the shoes of the serene kids she draws and explore her watercolor world, touch and smell the strange flowers growing out of me, and play with the fantastical critters all around the dream-like environment.

If you're addicted to tumbling as well as doodling, visit Doodlers Anonymous on Tumblr and follow along for more daily inspiration. You might even see yourself on it!

October's Guest Contributor:
Kristopher Kotcher (aka Frenemy)

About six months ago I discovered Kristopher's art over on Instagram, and I've been an avid fan ever since. The first thing you'll notice when you follow his daily feed is the amount of work he puts out. The second, is the pure fun and enjoyment that resonates in his work, it's obvious he loves drawing and creating his quirky characters and worlds.

"I enjoy creating a world all my own, to manipulate as I please, create things never seen, get lost in the process of patterns and lines, the colors, meticulous detail. To feel the wonder the way you would when you're a kid. This is something I can never let go of."

Kristopher is a self-taught artist from Austin, Texas currently living in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam and lucky for us, he'll be guest blogging with our team for the month of October. Get to know him better on frenemylife.com and make sure to follow his Instagram for a constant feed of inspiration.

Kaleidoscope to the Sky

Saddo Jadderos art is what happens when rainbows and stardust have sex. His prismatic, galactic world makes me so happy. Tonight, I know Ill dream in juicy color.

Most of the these images are from his "AS IF BY MAGIC" show back in 2010, but be sure to check out his recent work as well. Saddo is talented and prolific producing an astonishing amount of work. Check out all the goodness on his Flickr.

Wonderfully Charming Drawn GIFs

I've had this in my bookmarks to share for a while, and I truly regret not posting about it earlier. It's a beautiful collection of animated GIFs made with the soft lines from colored pencils. The clips themselves are these fantastically awkward loops of people doing common things. Check out the Tumblr site, I guarantee you'll fall for this project by Thoka Maer.

Nice Hair Day

I found Gemma Austen's flickr feed thanks to her recent submission to our DA Flickr group. It is a bountiful collection of cute wide-eyed characters and monsters. However, my favorite find from her feed was the small, but wonderful In Her Hair set where she draws a colorfully illustrated scene in the hair of a small girl.

I hope she keeps it up, because I look forward to seeing more of them in our DA Flickr group in the weeks to come.

Revisiting Alex Eben Meyer's Sketchbook

Alex Eben Meyer is a Brooklyn based illustrator, and was the very first member to be spotlighted on Doodlers Anonymous back in 2010. We work in the same building in Brooklyn, and I was lucky to meet him a few months ago. Although his work has been featured here before, I'm a big fan of his latest observational sketches and thought I'd share some of them with you. These watercolor drawings are usually quick glimpses into slices of life; sitting at the local coffee shop, a neighborhood street corner, a roadtrip landscape, or the view from a window in New York. He also frequently posts figure drawing studies that share a similar sensibility. Controlled and loose at the same time, Alex's sketches seem to be edited spontaneously, stripping away specific details, while abstracting others. These drawings have occasionally found their way into his editorial illustrations, being utilized for clients like The New York Times, HP, and Design Sponge. There is a unique point of view and sense of humor in all of Alex's work, and to see more of it, you can go to his website, sketchblog, tumblr and twitter.

Color Pens Gone Wild

Mossi's markers make quick, short strokes of color that run into each other to create random shapes (and sometimes faces) born from his subconscious. Look closely and you'll be staring into a trippy collection of intricate lines and patterns, making it impossible to follow, but easy to love.
