Agata Mielnicka is an illustrator and graphic designer from Poland whose collection of average joe characters in circus clothing recently caught my attention. I almost get the sense that these characters are ‘performing’ the routines of their daily lives, remaining unamused (perhaps even sad) by the circus act we call humanity. I really enjoy Agata’s illustrative style when it comes to portraying these characters, putting forth this non-sexualized yet explicit interpretation of the human body with exaggerated proportions and features. The bright blocks of color overlap thin lines to create interesting compositions that work perfectly with her common theme of striped clothing and pattern-like body hair. If you don’t speak Polish, the captions remain a mystery leaving the artwork even more open for interpretation. What do you think?
