Slava Triptih’s monochrome illustrations emerging from black clouds of spray paint are an elegant mess. The grit and grain of thousands of tiny paint drops over a carefully detailed portrait makes it more impactful than a clean, crisp drawing would be. Some portraits are simplistic in concept and others carry messages about social issues, such as world politics. On the process of experimenting with styles in his art, Slava wrote, "First of all, I made abstract spray lines on paper. It looked very expressive. Then I was looking and trying to see some forms, figures, faces. It was like Rorschach test." The results of drawing with on-the-fly inspiration from abstract lines are pretty amazing!
