Cata is an Argentinian-based artist who has combined two very cool and beloved things in the art world – embroidery and anime! When we say she draws with yarn, we really mean it. Although embroidery as a medium does encompass illustration, we’re more used to seeing things like flowers or abstract designs as opposed to characters from Inuyasha or Blue Period brought to life with fabric on a tambour frame – but we’re not complaining! It’s an incredibly cool concept and it’s nice to see artists combine their love for different subjects and mediums to create a practice that is so different and true to themselves.
Cata has been sharing her anime embroidery artwork on Instagram since 2020, and even then it was obvious how different this style of artwork was and how quick it would be to capture the attention of anime fans around the world. You can view any of her artworks on Instagram and expect to see comments asking if they can purchase the piece or where she ships to, which is really any artist’s dream when they post their work online. She’s been true to herself and her passion since day one it seems, with there being no wavering in her style or subject matter, just a steady progression in talent and composition. It reminds us of a quote from the movie Field of Dreams, “if you build it, they will come.”
