Primal Drawings and Falling Limbs

Piotr’s work is pretty and primal. The artist's rural, folk-art sensibility is expressed in the masks and dense tribal and geometric patterns. Reminiscent of wood block prints or cave paintings, his work tells a rugged tale about nature and human nature. Visit his website for more.

Featured Artist #21: Greg Kletsel

Greg Kletsel is a drawing machine. In all seriousness, I believe he must be built of metal and moving parts with at least one robotic arm and an infinite supply of ink. That's the only thing that could explain the amount of work he outputs.

I met Greg a thousand years ago when he interviewed at the studio I worked at. The position didn't play out, but I liked his drawing skills and asked if he'd draw up an idea I had for a t-shirt. That's how Tools of the Trade was born (it's still one of my favorite tees).

Today, Greg is a full-time illustrator and designer based in Brooklyn, New York who's rocking it on the illustration scene. Cranking out zines, comics, posters, and all while filling up sketchbook pages by the minute. I have tons of respect for Greg and so it made perfect sense to feature his work in an exclusive drawn interview. He of course did not take the task lightly and simply blew our minds away with his drawn responses to each question. Check out the detail, line work and thought behind each drawing. Wow! Tumblr of the Week: Mangun

It's interesting how we can immediately identify a person's face in drawings, even when, upon closer inspection, they barely contain any characteristics of real humans. Indonesian artist Popo Mangun's black and white drawings are an example of this mental habit. His tumblr is a gallery of strange portraits, whose geometric shapes are reminiscent of ancient tribal masks.

The Many Faces of Walter White

You know a show is great when it inspires a ton of fan art, and Breaking Bad has certainly given us a lot to doodle about. As the show reaches its final episode, we've decided to put together a little collection of some of our favorite Walter White drawings from around the web. What's cool about this collection is that you can pinpoint the transformation of Walter White's character into Heisenberg through the different styles and methods each artist chose to use.

Whiteboard + Marker + Doodles = Stop Motion Animation awesomeness!

It's true, whiteboard animation videos are trendy now, but they're typically used to explain complex services or somebody's political platform. Jonny Lawrence on the other hand is having a blast making them, just for the sheer fun of it. It involves tons of time, patience, storyboarding and doodle skills, but the final result is incredibly worth it.

Besides making the two animations above, Jonny is a talented concept/storyboard artist living and working in the United Kingdom.

I See People in the Crowd

No man's an island. We are made up of the random faces that crowd us on the street, the flirtatious faces that populate our dreams, and the familiar, comforting faces that inhabit our memories. Those faces—the faces of others—make up our life experience. Could you capture them all? Guilherme Kramer of Sao Paulo spent a year doing just that. He covered a wall with the people he sees in the crowd--each painted face seemingly eager to tell his own story. Take some time and hang out with them.

White With Fear

These are not doodles, they are life like character drawings found in Chamo San's moleskine and I cannot stop looking at them. Each one seems to tell of a moment in time with no beginning or end, just a middle. And take note of the white marks, what perfect subtlety.
