An Uncommon Parisian

Red lips, rouged cheeks, and that certain je ne sais quoi that is oh-so-French, Valerie Galloway's giclee prints capture the glamor and spirit of post-war Paris. Saturated in pattern and charm and the pull of delicate nostalgia, you can almost see the yellowed, worn-edged family photos which inspired her. What an uncommon find I just discovered at UncommonGoods.

Hey Doodlers! Doodle for Blik

We're pleased as pie that our friends at Blik are sponsoring Doodlers Anonymous again in their search for amazing illustrators. It's a win-win: selected DA artists get a sweet gig (cha-ching), and Blik gets to collaborate with some of the most stupendous creatives around. (Us? biased?) See for yourself. Below are some images of the current project -- wall installations for the groundbreaking LA radio station KCRW. DA n' Blik = milk n' honey.

Interested? Submit your website link to [email protected] and we'll get back to you, if you and a project make a good fit.

Scott Flora, Blik's co-founder, describes the project in his own words...

We are incredibly inspired by the artwork created by Doodlers Anonymous artists from as far away as the UK and Germany for a collaborative BLIK Studio custom project. We are working with the groundbreaking LA radio station KCRW which reaches 500,000 listeners each week and is credited with introducing such artists as Beck, Coldplay and Norah Jones to the world. Together with Jim Bradshaw, Greg Kletsel, Diana Kohne, Muxxi, Olly Gibbs and Sophie Roach, BLIK is creating art for interior and exterior walls of the stations' offices and studio. The project is currently underway and is slated to be installed and completed this Spring.

Incredible! We can't wait to see pics of the real thing installed.

Showcase #15: Bookmark Doodles

At Doodlers Anonymous we love books. We love the texture, ink, and creases of the printed word — the tactile deliciousness of thumbing, highlighting and devouring pages. We love books that weigh heavy in our hands.

This drawing challenge is a tribute to traditional paper books and the act of reading. The two winners of this challenge (yes, there will be two!) will have their artwork fashioned into DA bookmarks. We challenge you to doodle the front-side of a bookmark, and we'll use the back to promote and credit you.

Special thanks to the fine folks at PrintRunner.com for sponsoring this showcase. Check them out for all your printing needs, including: business cards, stickers, postcards and more. There's no specific theme this time around, although keeping it book or reading relevant is encouraged. We're just looking for some delicious art and something you'll be proud of. Go and get your doodle on, complete details here (deadline May 31st).

We have a winner.
Actually, we have three.

With so much deliciousness, 99 to be exact, how could we crown just one winner? The comments reflect how difficult it was for our community to select one artwork from a sea of talent. Well, thank goodness for Blik who worked with us to up the ante. There will be three winners-- the submission with the most votes, as well as two Editor's picks. Besides having their designs produced in limited-edition runs, all three winners will receive their own decal as well as a $75 Blik gift certificate and a Blik tee. I just love a happy ending!

Congrats to Harikrishnan Panicker (aka thumbdemon), Michelle Lasalvia (aka Pirichi), and Camila León (aka camiki) whose wall decals will be sold on Blik and DA in Mid-April.

And to the rest of you, there are no words to describe how happy we are with the creativity that was brought to this challenge. We thank you for every effort and submission on this showcase, and hope you continue to join us in many more fun and amazing drawing exercises this year.
