Drawn Wallpapers for the Digital Age: Art by Jim Bradshaw, #4

Jim Bradshaw is one of our favorite artists. His creatures are often fun, wacky and off-the-wall. In the fourth wallpaper from our series, he delivers a tapestry of convivial personalities over an explosion of red.

Download the wallpaper — your phone and tablet will thank you.

Drawn Wallpapers for the Digital Age:
Art by Krysthopher Woods, #3

Krysthopher Woods often turns the ghastly and creepy into stunning and sublime. In the third wallpaper from our series, he seems to have drawn a creature enveloped by snow and tears during it's final journey.

It renders beautiful and it's yours to download.

Drawn Wallpapers for the Digital Age:
Art by überkraaft, #2

Matt Williams (aka überkraaft) rocks red and black lines for our second drawn wallpaper in the series. Matt's been in the habit of doodling since the age of three and now resides in the U.K. as a freelance illustrator, designer and all-around creative.

This wallpaper looks amazing on my iPad. Download it today and you'll see what I mean.

Drawn Wallpapers for the Digital Age:
Art by Muxxi, #1

Unless you've printed this website on some paper, you are no doubt reading this on some sort of digital device. Maybe it sits on your desk or lap, or maybe it's small enough to be held in one hand or two, no matter the case, you deserve a beautifully drawn background to greet you every time you turn it on.

That's where we come in. We as in Doodlers Anonymous and the artists who've been invited to share their art with you.

Our first wallpaper is hand-drawn by Guatemalan artist Muxxi. A long time friend of DA, Muxxi shares with us her surreal world and fantastical characters. Download it free and make it part of your everyday. If you’d like to be notified when the next one is released, sign up to our newsletter.

Drawn Intermission

Anton Marrast makes surreal pictures. He plays with photographs he's taken himself and edits them together to create his digital art. You can see some of them featured in his interview over at Empty Kingdom.

But he also loves working on paper. To me, his drawings seem to capture a perfectly still frame from some interesting movie that has yet to come out. I want to know the story behind each one of them.

A Different Way to Doodle

When I was first asked to contribute to DA this month it really got me thinking about what it meant to doodle. The first thing that springs to mind for me is always the random scribbles I do while I'm talking on the phone. But there are so many different ways (and materials you can use) to doodle.

I feel like I''m slightly underselling the work shown here by calling it a doodle. But doodles can also be as simple, or as intricate as you want them to be.

All of this work is by the amazing Jared Andrew Schorr, who also happens to be a really nice guy. If Jared had created all of this work with pens or paints I'd still love it. But there's something about the fact that this is all made with cut up bits of paper that takes it to another level.

I'm always amazed by the amount of detail Jared manages to cram into his work. Especially when you see how TINY some of this work is. He must have the steadiest hands and highest level of patience in the whole world.

The picture at top is the "lobby" of Jared's portfolio website. You should head over there and have a click around, and you can see a lot more of Jared's work on his Flickr photostream. There's plenty of photos on there that show you how big these pieces actually are.

I must have clicked "favorite" on 99% of his photos!

Sur Alert!

Bangkok illustrator Suralert jirawangso’s women inhabit an inked, abstract world of green spruce trees, coffee-cup-rainbows, lipstick, and mushrooms. I’ve tried-- I can’t pick a favorite. His drawings layer patterned wallpaper, geometric shapes, hand-drawn type, and a confounding control of color. How do you say love in Thai?
