Friend of DA, Jangojim, dropped me an email with a heads up on his friend, Alex Warble and a recent video he posted of the process of going from doodle to digital (youtube link). I watched the video, and then spent some time on Alex's quirky and off-the-wall website, where links and colorful images are sporadically laid-out across the page. I quickly got lost in his world of imaginative and almost child-like highbrow meets lowbrow art. He's a music/mural/painting loving mad man and I'm happy to have discovered him. You should too, and if you reside in Memphis you're probably already quite familiar with his murals spread across town.

Buried In The Attic

Two years ago I waved hello (cyber-wave that is) to Caroline Gaedechens and asked her to please send over a few sketchbook pages. Then somehow I forgot all about it... until today! Thank you Gmail unlimited storage, you da-best.

I've never had an attic in my house, but I imagine this is what it feels like to have a spring-clean and find a treasure. A gentle, quiet, hand-drawn treasure in the attic.

Kelly Lasserre

Hey all! I'm excited to be sharing some great illustrators and projects on Doodlers Anonymous this month as a guest blogger. To start things off, I'd like to tell you about the work of Kelly Lasserre!

Kelly and I were both Illustration majors at MICA (Maryland Institute College of Art) several years ago. It's great to see how her work has grown since then. Much of her work includes text, and Kelly's hand lettering is in harmony with her drawing and painting.

Overall, I find Kelly's illustrations really amusing, but also informative (I now know how to make a Bloody Mary), and reveal some sad-but-true things about life in general.

Check out: Kelly's website and her Tumblr.

I See People in the Crowd

No man's an island. We are made up of the random faces that crowd us on the street, the flirtatious faces that populate our dreams, and the familiar, comforting faces that inhabit our memories. Those faces—the faces of others—make up our life experience. Could you capture them all? Guilherme Kramer of Sao Paulo spent a year doing just that. He covered a wall with the people he sees in the crowd--each painted face seemingly eager to tell his own story. Take some time and hang out with them.

The Many Faces of a Toilet Paper Roll

I only recently came to know Andrew Orlando. He stopped by our studio to drop off a drawn Doodle Addict Postcard and with him was a bright green tote bag. When I looked inside, dozens of faces stared back at me. I immediately lit up, the bag was filled with toilet paper rolls that he covered with bright and bold colors of paint and marker. Eyes, teeth, scribbled hair and so many expressions formed these comical characters. Over 30 rolls in hand and he told me he had tons more back home, I believe he said his goal was to reach one-thousand.

Milk Does A Sketchbook Good

Portraits made with oil paint, that is what Soey Milk (an artist from Pasadena, California) is best known for, but I wanted to look beneath all of that and showcase the drawings you'd find in her sketchbook.

I think you'll agree, I found them to be just as dramatic and seductive.

He's in his early twenties and has already amassed an endless amount of drawings, sketches, paintings and comics. I'm not even sure what to post from his flickr archive because I love it all, from the colors in his paintings to his pupil-less people and panel-heavy drawn pages. That was a mouthful, but his work truly is overwhelming. Meet Saman Bemel Benrud.
