Pimp My Post-It

Back up if you thought post-its were just for mundane to-do lists and whatnot. Gangster Doodles has taken office supplies and turned them into some seriously NSFW material. You think you're fancy with your "paper" and "art supplies," meanwhile in just 3 weeks the superfly Aaron Dickenson of G. Doodles has cranked out 174 mesmerizingly sick portraits of thugs and divas doing their thing with just sharpies and markers on a 3X3 post-it note.

Here are some snippets of what you wish your life was like:

The Daily Coffee

This morning (and every morning) I need my coffee to get going. Sometimes for the caffeine, sometimes for the ritual.

It seems Brandon Ortwein would agree. Since October 2010, Brandon has taken to making a daily coffee cup post-it note drawing. As you'd expect from a caffeinated doodle, they are full of color and energetic marker streaks. I love these drawings as a collection. It's a reminder of how something simple, done overtime, could look impressive and complete.

Almost Chaotic

Each page of Zsolt Vidak's sketchbook feels like an explosion of color perfectly accented by bold and interwoven strokes. His lines make faces, expressions, letters, animals and gestures that culminate into vivid and psychedelic scenes.

And I must say, the above sketch of the 1950's Chevy-looking car (with the sobbing headlights) has been engrained into my memory since I've discovered it. KABOOM!

Showcase #4: Draw Your Destination

So many of us sit idle everyday dreaming of our next travel to somewhere fantastical and new. I know I do, and this week's showcase will have you yearning for that next adventure even more. Imagine being given a passport to travel anywhere you like, real or just in your imagination. Now simply draw it for us all to see. The destination is open for you to define as you wish. It could be as nearby as your local street market or as distant as planet Venus.

Share your drawn destination with us and you could win the perfect accessory for your next escapade, the one-of-a-kind Field Journal Notebook by Tom Bihn (a $75 value). A useful tool for any artist on the go, it's essentially a compact, portable, weather-proof, zippered notebook for doodling, journaling or sketching. It's made with love right here in the U.S. of A and it is the culmination of countless hours of design.

We just got one of our very own and must admit, this really is perfect for any urban sketcher. Read on for the complete guidelines to Showcase #4

Sticky Notes

Oh my, oh my, this book review is long over-due. This morning I was at Office Depot buying extremely over-priced Post-it notes when I remembered one of my favorite doodlers, Mr. Marc Johns.

Marc creates drawings, and quite often they land on yellow sticky notes. Those are my favorite of his work, because they are quick, down-n-dirty, quirky doodles filled with insight and humor.

His book, Serious Drawings, is loaded with art and scribbles that will make you smile on every page turn. It's seriously been on my coffee table for over a year and is almost always being flipped through by someone. Get a copy today, and you'll make a new friend.

Life As I Go

She started with a Strathmore pocket sketchbook, spiralbound hardback. Continued on a Moleskine Cahier Plain Journal, softback. Finally settled on a Moleskine Notebook Plain Sketchbook, hardback. Whatever it is, Elaine draws out her daily life in the pages of these books. She fills the pages with lists, her objectives, thrift shop price stickers, quotes and everything in between. I got lost in her doodles simply because they are unpretentious and sincere.

Featured: ELBOW-TOE

ELBOW-TOE is the mad scientist of street art. His work is eclectic and ever evolving with content grounded in myth, symbolism and poetry.

I have always been fascinated by the direction of his art in the public spaces of Brooklyn and was therefore happy to learn that he carries a sketchbook with him on the subways of New York city.

For this awesome feature, we have 17 spreads from ELBOW-TOE's own book, all done flawlessly with a red felt pen. See for yourself
