Biopunk - Organic Neon Doodles

These incredible doodles blur the lines between scientific and surreal. Peter Mai has a gift for combining bold lines and neon paint in striking combinations to draw abstract forms with an exciting curiosity surging through them. The flow in Mai’s composition fills the illustrations with motion, even in their stillness. Oddly anatomical imagery with punches of vivid color feels like biology diagrams on a sugar rush. I’m not sure what I’m looking at, but it’s alive and fascinating.

Neon Ghosts

When it comes to art, my eyes have always been inherently drawn to brightness surrounded by black. Graham Yarrington's smokey dark nestling around bright neon are exactly what I like to see. Inner Thoughts In Neon Pencil

Something eerie is happening. Ines Jakovljević's drawings are intensely personal and yet creepily inhuman. There's elements of biology textbook illustrations gone wrong, or gross-looking creatures found in the black depths of the sea. Enigmatic phrases are incorporated into the pictures, most of which sound to me like those nasty inner thoughts whispered to yourself in your head. These drawings have a bewitchingly sweet palette of vibrant neon and pastel colors, an unexpected choice for the gory visual details. I've been hooked and keep on diving deeper into Ines' color penciled inner world.

Oodles of Doodles

Hello everyone! Today I would like to share with you some of my own personal doodles and drawings that I have been working on recently. I will have a spread in an upcoming issue of Color Ink Book and have been working hard on new drawings for it. My favorite is my little twist on The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein: "The Giving Boy". He was a huge influence on me as a kid. I would check his books out at the school library and practice drawing by copying his artwork.

I've also been working on a series of 15 new paintings/drawings for an upcoming exhibition in Houston, Texas. I am doing all the paintings in the same neon color scheme. I hope you enjoy and here's to another super productive week! Keep on doodling!
