There's a Forklift in My Pencil Case

Sometimes I worry that my doodlings might be getting a bit claustrophobic in that A5 notebook of mine. Would they be happier with a bit more space to play around in? Maybe some fresh air and a more interesting view than the last page's bum?

I'm keen to take notes from Luke Ramsey and Josh Holinaty - these boys know how to go BIG! For this mural in Canada, their doodling space was so huge they needed a forklift to reach the top!

It's probably best that I don't let the doodlings in my A5 notebook catch wind of this. They'd be so jealous. They might go on strike until I gave them more space to play around in. I guess I'll have to bust out the A3 butchers paper tonight, that'll keep them happy! For now.

The Structure of the Universe

This has got to be one of the coolest projects ever commissioned. Cristina Guitian was asked to draw a 38-metre long mural for the AMC Hospital in Amsterdam.

In her own words: "The result is a representation of the human body where the limbs extend the whole length of the corridors. The artwork was hand-drawn in my studio in London, digitally coloured, printed on transparent sticker and then pasted on the glass offices of the hospital. Different textures, such as semitransparent frost and opaque white, are used throughout resulting in changes of appearance in the daylight and with the opening and closing of doors."

I love it when I get a peek into the process of things going from an idea to its realization. And to prove that good things often start with sketchbook scribbles, Cristina was kind enough to share with me her initial doodles for this project, some final photos and even a video example of the overlapping drawings.

Member Spotlight: Benjamin Murphy

The talent in our community never ceases to impress me, and as the pool of members grow, so do their variety of medium.

That leads me to the discovery of Benjamin Murphy, who likes to draw directly onto walls with electrical tape as his ink. Yes, that's right, sticky, sticky, black tape and he's pretty damn good at it too. You can find Benjamin in the U.K. or at his blog, ALL DESTRUCTO.

Walls, Bags and Everything Else

If I could draw on walls for a living, I would be the happiest person on earth. Camille Rousseau does this and does it so well that it makes me jealous. Check out her paper bag drawings, too. Hell, just check it all out. She's French. She's living in London. And she's a badass.
