Anorak Publishes the Winning Drawings

I was so happy to get my hands on the Summer edition of Anorak magazine. What an incredible issue: First, it starts off with a banging cover by Jack Teagle. Then it's page after page of spectacular illustrations and stories by folks like Lesley Barnes, Anat Sifri and Cachete Jack, with principal illustrations by Matthew Bromley.

And finally it ends on two full spreads of black and white drawings from the Doodlers Anonymous community. There's no doubt kids will be eager to color these pages in. Congratulations again to all of you for participating and playing along, and special thanks to Anorak for the incredible effort to always publish beautiful content.

Get Published

Back in 2009 I described Anorak Magazine as "the happy, colorful, illustrated, quirky, character-filled, page-turning, content-driven mag for everyone," but they simply call themselves "the happy mag for kids." Happy being the key word here, and this summer Doodlers Anonymous is going to help them spread some of that joy around.

How you ask? Anorak is committing 6 pages of their June issue to your illustrations, with each page featuring two images, so that's a total of 12 artists getting some nice attention and love from us all (not to mention a free issue of course). We have only 3 guidelines for your participation: (1) Your art must be black and white, so kids can choose to color it in (2) It must be horizontal (in other words landscape mode), so we can easily fit two on a page (3) Your illustration must be themed FAVORITE SPORTS, but of course invented and imaginary sports are welcomed too.

Deadline is April 25th. Get drawing and submit your artwork to sports{at}doodlersanonymous{dot}com. The team at Anorak and DA will pick the final selection of twelve. Good luck to everyone and follow us on Twitter or Facebook for updates along the way.

Showcase #13: Doodlebomb!

Introducing... DA's first showcase challenge of 2012! What's a showcase challenge you ask? Well, it's only the best way to participate and show off your doodle skills. Plus, the winner scores some damn cool prizes.

This is our 13th challenge. Could you be the lucky one? The winner gets a $50 credit at UPrinting.com and a 2012 Doodlers Anonymous Hand-Drawn calendar.

And now for the details. It's simple. Just choose a magazine ad and doodle it up. Have a blast at the expense of the print advertising world. Deadline is Wednesday (February 22nd) at 11am EST, click for complete submissions details »

In The Press

Here are some recent findings of Doodlers Anonymous out in the wild…

The winter issue of Anorak Magazine has been published. It features tons of colorful and playful illustrations around the theme of books, and best of all, there's a spread (see above) highlighting some of the wonderful submissions* to the Doodlers Anonymous Balloon Showcase. Go on and get yourself a copy »

Also noteworthy is this sweet review of our website, written and drawn by Emmi Ojala for SUPERSWEET Magazine. So many good quotes in there…

"On the DA website, creativity gets contagious and you’ll be dying to draw before your mouse has said “click” (or if not, be happy for having one addiction less)." -- The Cure To Those Suffering For Art

Thanks to all of you for the love and support. Doodle on…

* Print Correction: In the Anorak Magazine spread there's a submission that was incorrectly credited. The doodled balloon of an Owl Ornament was drawn by Cheryl Smith. Hoot, hoot, sorry for the misprint.

Taking a Line for a Walk

I had the pleasure of meeting up with Mr. Fender this weekend, Vaughn Fender that is. He met me at the coffee shop across the street from my apartment (I am so lazy but shhh...don't tell him that). We spent the rest of the afternoon talking and sharing stories. He was sporting a back pack filled with goodies, including this book (it's actually a very thick magazine). He told me it is one of the books he always grabs when he needs to get inspired. And after flipping through the pages, I agreed. So although this book is a bit of an oldie, we both urge you to get it in your hands if you don't already have it. It's page after page of drawings and scribbles and all things doodle-icious.
