First Things First

Hey doodlers! i'm honored to be a guest contributor this month.

I grew up in a small town in Texas, right outside of San Antonio. I was a weirdo, skater, tall and skinny son of a gun, who grew up during the 80's. I've done a bunch of things in my life, including being a lifeguard, cave tour guide, margarita mix bottler, art director, designer, publisher and collaborator. I now live in Austin with my girlfriend and two cats where I do things like make logos, album artwork, websites and murals.

I enjoy drawing on many different surfaces including paper, wood, glass and other things. My favorite way to draw is with no idea what mark or image will appear in the final work. I like to see what just pours out onto the paper.

I'm going to do my best to bring you some cool things to look at this month including some of my favorite doodlers from here in Austin and beyond! Maybe I'll share some sketches for projects I have in the works and maybe some good old fashioned Texas fun shots!

Thanks for reading, more to come!

May's Guest Contributor: Mason McFee

It was just a few weeks ago that I featured Mason's work (with a member spotlight), and now I get to mention him again, as he'll be writing for the DA blog right alongside me for the month of May.

He goes by the name of Maseman and hails from the city of Austin. If you play close attention, I think you'll find his love for Texas all over his work and plenty hints of his designer talents as well. From screen prints and murals to scribbles and sketchbooks, Mason has got it covered.

Welcome to the show! Now let's rock May.

February's Guest Contributor:
Amaia Arrazola

This is a fun announcement! For the month of February, Amaia Arrazola will join the Doodlers Anonymous team as a guest contributor to the blog. Starting tomorrow she'll be sharing with us inspirations, books, zines, artists and all the things she's completely head over heels in love with.

I first fell for Amaia's work back in November of 2010, when I wrote about her drawn suitcase (a must see). She's been one of my favorite since, and has recently been featured on the last page of our second coloring book (as seen above -- get it here)!

If you are new to Amaia's handy work, please take the time to get to know her. Pencil, ink, markers, thread… drawn all over paper, fabric, walls, you name it, she's done it. Check out her portfolio and blog or follow her along on twitter and instagram. Welcome to DA, Amaia.

September's Guest Contributor:
Lee Crutchley

You know him as the author of Quoteskine, a book of drawn quotes, lyrics and clever word play, and for the month of September you'll know him as our blog's guest contributor.

Lee is an up and coming illustrator in the UK that's tirelessly working to "make it" as a freelancer. He runs an incredibly beloved tumblr blog, but plans to step a bit out of that role this month to post on Doodlers Anonymous about the people and things that inspire him.

You can stalk him on twitter, visit him at leecrutchley.co.uk or simply welcome him to the site in the comments below.

August's Guest Contributor:
Sara E. Barnes

For the month of August we are welcoming fellow blogger and illustrator Sara E. Barnes as a guest contributor here on DA. Sara is the creator and voice behind the wonderfully curated website Brown Paper Bag and is working towards her MFA (Illustration Practice) at the Maryland Institute College of Art.

Sara's own work is an amazing mix of color and collage of scraps, ink, paint, and embroidery. I'm fascinated by how the loose pieces of cut paper come together to reveal such a complete and controlled final artwork. I've gathered a few of my favorite works by her here to introduce you.

March's Guest Contributor:
Vincent Griffin

Most days when I post inspiration on Doodlers Anonymous, it's because I discovered an artist doing something so incredibly different than my own style, that I just want to share them with everyone. Other times, I discover an artist whose style is so familiar to me, that I practically connect to each and every one of their drawings.

In this case, it was with Vincent Griffin's work. I've been following his feed on Instagram and quickly realized how often I "like" one of his images. We only exchanged a few emails, but I immediately knew he would be a great fit to guest write for the month of March.

He gladly accepted.

Vincent works in Little Rock, Arkansas as an illustrator and part-times it playing music in two different bands (or music collectives as he called them). He lives on Instagram and posts completed works on Land and Shape. Here are some of my favorites, but I really just wanted to post all of his work.

See You Around

It seems like February is saying good bye to all of us. I really enjoyed so much sharing with you some of my favorites doodles, I hope you enjoyed them too and I hope they were as inspiring for you as they are for me. Instead of a "good bye" I want to say "see you around" cause I will be sharing some other interesting things in the future in this amazing and lovely place. Doodlers Anonymous is definitely one of my favorite sites and I wanna thank them for this amazing opportunity.

Meanwhile you can follow me on twitter (@Muxxi) and Facebook, hope to see you there. Let's keep it doodling!
