Featured: John Malta

The world of John Malta is in another realm. His shaky uneven lettering, his colorful yet dark and eerie illustrations, his fascination with punk shows and pet lizards - they all make for something that's weird and wonderful at the same time.

To this day, John's cat doodle (I'm still not quite sure if it's really a cat but I love him anyway), which you can find inside our DA coloring book, remains as one of my favorites.

For his feature, John answered a few questions for us in doodle form. His answers, as you will see, are full of character, full of texture, full of awesome. He also sent over some photos from inside his studio in NYC, where he is living now.

Moldy Magic. That's how he refers to his work. And really, I couldn't have come up with a better pairing of words to describe John Malta and his sultry craft. It's bound to grow on you, if it hasn't already.

Featured: ELBOW-TOE

ELBOW-TOE is the mad scientist of street art. His work is eclectic and ever evolving with content grounded in myth, symbolism and poetry.

I have always been fascinated by the direction of his art in the public spaces of Brooklyn and was therefore happy to learn that he carries a sketchbook with him on the subways of New York city.

For this awesome feature, we have 17 spreads from ELBOW-TOE's own book, all done flawlessly with a red felt pen. See for yourself »

Featured: Matteo Gualandris

Matteo comes to us from the land of Northern Italy, where his mind seems to wander endlessly over the pages of his Moleskine notebook. We are featuring an unprecedented 32 images for his feature, showcasing a diverse set of Matteo's work with his obvious consistent style. My personal favorite seem to be the pages that have an almost infinite landscape of faces and characters. View the feature now!

Featured: Chris Piascik

According to CNN's countdown to the election: (as of this post) we are exactly 12 days, 7 hours and 8 minutes from going to the polls. Chris Piascik doodles every day, but lately his Moleskine is filled with page after page of political observations done in beautiful hand-drawn typography. I have to admit that even my own doodles (usually random thoughts, like daydreams that make no sense) have been clouded by the 2008 election.

For Chris' feature, I had to stop myself from wanting to showcase his more familiar work (art unrelated to politics) of beautiful paintings, gocco prints and daily drawings, so that I could focus your attention on a set of images that speaks the real truth about his work: he can even make the words "Sarah Palin is trash(y)" look good. Featured: lapin

When flipping through the illustrative works of lapin, you can't help but ask yourself: how does one have the time and skill to draw all of this. Page after page of doodles and sketches from everyday life, caught in an almost literary fashion. For his feature, I've selected 6 spreads from his sketchbook that I find to reflect an amazing compostion of lines, color, and content. His works will inspire you to never let go of your notebook and you'll wish you were travelling right alongside of him. Click to the feature »

Featured: Lauren Nassef

Just a few short weeks ago, I received an email from Lauren confessing that she is an obsessive doodler. Lauren went on to mention this "drawing a day" commitment that she's made and kept for nearly twelve months. I quickly clicked the link to her dailies and got lost in them for nearly an hour. Each one was captivating, and so... for her feature I had the lucky, but difficult task of selecting one from every month.
