Sky High

Last night I flew to the west coast and was stuck up in the air for five hours. I killed the time by listening to The National, Band of Horses and a little Mumford and Sons. I didn't have my sketchbook but I did find my travel itinerary to draw on. Here are a few of the doodles I made while waiting to get back on land. Oh, and by the way, warm greetings from a very rainy California.

Pristine and Magical

Sean Alexander's drawings are a breath of fresh air. I'm not kidding. I literally just took a deep breath while looking at his flickr page. They remind me of the very primitive, very simplistic, very beautiful art you see inside art history books. So much detail and craft is put into each drawing. His tools of the trade? Micron pens, stonehedge paper, prismacolor pencils and number 2 pencils.

My Kind of Folk

I want to be a part of the cast of characters from the world of Ryan Peltier. Being skinny and bearded, I feel like I am already half way there.

Check out the raw and char-coaled work at his recently updated website and also visit the shop that carries some fairly priced limited-edition silkscreens (I love the Robot Child one). But first, come and meet the family.

Dreams Are Necessary

Beautiful works by Rithika Merchant. Whimsical drawings broken into tiled sheets of paper. Her art all seems to be part of the same wild dream. If you like these, then you should also dive into the "exhumed books" section of her site, where she manipulates used books, found objects and old maps into fascinating and three-dimensional compositions.

Tea Magic

Roseau's flickr streams is one of my all time favorites. Her brain is in another world and her drawings are like dreams, filled with magic and mystical creatures. Married with a small dose of mystery, you've got something wonderful staring at you in the face.

Fax Ex-Machina

Four Brazilian Artists. Four UK Artists. Three fax machines. One exhibition called "Fax Ex-Machina."

Earlier this month, the KK Outlet in the UK and POP Gallery in São Paulo simultaneously hosted a live art exchange between Brazilian and UK artists through the use of the fax machine. "High taxes and blindsided customs laws make it impractical to import and export art in and out of Brazil. Using the lo-fi means of fax machines we aim to avoid these extortionate charges and showcase young talent in and outside of Brazil."

The participating artists included the likes of Ramon Martins, Eduardo Recife, Elisa Sassi, Carlos Dias, Andrew Clark, Billie Jean, Mcbess and Jimmy Turrell.

Great concept. Great art. Simply great all around. Take a look at some of the photos from this extra cool event.

Something Glorious Is About To Happen

She goes by Yoda or Lady Orlando, but no matter what you call her, the work deserves your undivided attention. She's a 29 year old from Mexico with (what seems like) an endless collection of inspiring drawings, each one more expressive than the previous. On flickr, she's posted tons of "miniature disasters", plus a complete look into her Moleskine journal. Looking through her work felt more like taking a journey through her life.
