I've been getting really into comics lately, and that's probably one of the reasons that Jack Teagle is quickly becoming one of my favourite artists.

I'm told that envy and jealousy are terrible and pointless feelings, so I try my best to lock them away when I look at Jack's work. It would be easy to envy the way everything he does is awesome, or be jealous that he completely nails that elusive combination of a simplistic style and bold colours, or cry that it all seems so effortless (although I'm sure it's not). But I've found the best thing to do is let the awesome insanity of his work whisk you away into his little world for a while, and just be glad that it exists.



Jack seems to churn out work at a crazy pace, and he's been updating his tumblr this week with these new paintings. They're part of a show called Lost Plot at Here Gallery in Bristol, UK. The show opens on September 7th and runs right through to October 6th.

Lost Plot also features work from Liam Barrett, Rose Robbins and Simon Daly. If you'll be in or around Bristol in the next month you should definitely check it out.

Guten Tag! Auf Wiedersehen! That's about as far as my German goes. If only my second-grade German teacher had forced a few more foreign words into my soft young brain. I mean, one day we all made pancakes in class... is that even a German thing? Hmmm.

It's lucky then that my favourite German comic artist Nadine Redlich speaks mostly in pictures! Her drawings are cute, a bit smutty, and only sometimes need a helpful whisper from Google translate. Also her chill new series of "ambient comics" are surprisingly nice to stare at for a while.

Genießen! (that means "enjoy" in German.... I think)

Comic-style storylines, fine architectural detail, and precise drafting. I could get lost in the graphic and textual layers. I'm enamoured. Take a gander at Timothy J. Reynolds's Moleskins and you will be too.

Back in uni days, I was lucky enough to have illustrator and comic artist Simone Lia as my tutor and just look at her work and you’ll see exactly what I mean by lucky.

Simone’s work is a constant source of inspiration for me, I love her way of seeing the world and how she visually translates her observations perfectly both in her illustrations and comics.

Her body of work is so consistently rich in narrative and packed with humour. I’m particularly fond of her heart warming graphic novel Fluffy, and her Jesus as she saw it when she was six years old is absolutely priceless…
