Character Builder

This guy comes to us from Cape Town, South Africa. His name is Jordan Metcalf. And just by looking at his work, I can tell he is someone I would like to be friends with. Fun and playful in a sarcastic way, just like the characters he draws.

Gone Forever

I love this photo. I love it more and more each day and I can't say it's any one thing. The composition of everything makes it like the trip of a lifetime is about to begin. It's the distressed suitcase for sure, no, no I think it's probably the colors and expression of the drawn character. Ahh hell, I even like the tiled sized squares she's standing on and the style of denim and sneakers. It's the work of Amaia Arrazola, who's blog I just spent thirty-five minutes on. I can't remember the last time I did that.

I've learned this about her: she likes to draw on most anything, from aprons to brown paper bags and she's delightfully good at it. Click here and you'll see what I mean.

Finger People Among Others

There's something really fantastic happening with Tania Toronja's drawings. You might be more familiar with her flickr name, visamexicana. Either way, her work is mesmerizing. It's a little creepy at first glance but her use of vibrant colors and shapes take it to a very fun, playful level. Take a look. You won't get scared, I promise.

The Making of…

This is a time-lapse video of Pat Perry creating the above artwork over the course of a few weeks, using acrylic paint, ink, a brush and lots and lots of talent. Visit his site or watch another one of his intricate drawings in time-lapse video.

My favorite part is when he spills the color over the sketch and then begins to fill in the details. Kudos Mr. Perry.

GIVEAWAY: Maria Gil Ulldemolins Tote Bags

Let's face it. We at DA are major suckers for hair drawings, simply because of the nature of them; the intricate and delicate line work that takes up so much patience and time. And of course, because they look amazing. Maria Gil Ulldemolins creates these kinds of drawings and we absolutely love them. And what's even better is that Maria's offered to give away two of her tote bags with these beautiful illustrations on them.

Just leave a comment to be in the running. You have until Friday (October 22nd @ 3pm EST) and we'll randomly pick TWO lucky winners. Good luck!

105 comments and 2 names randomly drawn. Congrats to Jenni Sparks and La Cuenta Cuentos and of course thank you all for participating. For those of you interested in the beautiful work of Maria Gil Ulldemolins, you can always visit her Etsy shop to get your hands on her goodies.

Just Do Do Do.

Let's all take a moment to fall in love with the work of Christopher Holloran. He is an English man based in Amsterdam and he is so good, he gives me the heebie-jeebies. He likes to imagine "things are not as they seem." Well, I would like to imagine things as they seem in his mind.

A Far Away Place

I knew nothing about the Republic of Estonia. In fact, I had to do a little Wikipedia lookup just to get an idea of the region from which Liisa Kruusmägi is from. Liisa lives and works in Tallinn, the capital and largest city of Estonia, on the banks of the Gulf of Finland. A far away place from where I reside, and maybe all the more reason why I enjoyed her sketchbook so much.

Her website seems to just go on forever. You can scroll down past dozens of drawings, illustrations and images of the town and characters that surround her everyday. I don't know Liisa, but I wouldn't hesitate to claim that she is never without a pen in hand.
