Anorak Publishes the Winning Drawings

I was so happy to get my hands on the Summer edition of Anorak magazine. What an incredible issue: First, it starts off with a banging cover by Jack Teagle. Then it's page after page of spectacular illustrations and stories by folks like Lesley Barnes, Anat Sifri and Cachete Jack, with principal illustrations by Matthew Bromley.

And finally it ends on two full spreads of black and white drawings from the Doodlers Anonymous community. There's no doubt kids will be eager to color these pages in. Congratulations again to all of you for participating and playing along, and special thanks to Anorak for the incredible effort to always publish beautiful content.

Get Published

Back in 2009 I described Anorak Magazine as "the happy, colorful, illustrated, quirky, character-filled, page-turning, content-driven mag for everyone," but they simply call themselves "the happy mag for kids." Happy being the key word here, and this summer Doodlers Anonymous is going to help them spread some of that joy around.

How you ask? Anorak is committing 6 pages of their June issue to your illustrations, with each page featuring two images, so that's a total of 12 artists getting some nice attention and love from us all (not to mention a free issue of course). We have only 3 guidelines for your participation: (1) Your art must be black and white, so kids can choose to color it in (2) It must be horizontal (in other words landscape mode), so we can easily fit two on a page (3) Your illustration must be themed FAVORITE SPORTS, but of course invented and imaginary sports are welcomed too.

Deadline is April 25th. Get drawing and submit your artwork to sports{at}doodlersanonymous{dot}com. The team at Anorak and DA will pick the final selection of twelve. Good luck to everyone and follow us on Twitter or Facebook for updates along the way.

In The Press

Here are some recent findings of Doodlers Anonymous out in the wild…

The winter issue of Anorak Magazine has been published. It features tons of colorful and playful illustrations around the theme of books, and best of all, there's a spread (see above) highlighting some of the wonderful submissions* to the Doodlers Anonymous Balloon Showcase. Go on and get yourself a copy »

Also noteworthy is this sweet review of our website, written and drawn by Emmi Ojala for SUPERSWEET Magazine. So many good quotes in there…

"On the DA website, creativity gets contagious and you’ll be dying to draw before your mouse has said “click” (or if not, be happy for having one addiction less)." -- The Cure To Those Suffering For Art

Thanks to all of you for the love and support. Doodle on…

* Print Correction: In the Anorak Magazine spread there's a submission that was incorrectly credited. The doodled balloon of an Owl Ornament was drawn by Cheryl Smith. Hoot, hoot, sorry for the misprint.

The Family of Balloon Doodles

Showcase three was epic. You all came out to play this round and the end result has left us speechless. From the winning portrait of a balloon family by Andrea Armstrong to Katie Wall's orange balloon fish.

We are beyond delighted with every single one of the thirty-two total submissions and have decided to try and squeeze in almost half of them into the next issue of Anorak Magazine. Congratulations to Bianca Hegedus, Lori Alrawi, James William Pezet, Belinda Suzette, Jenni Sparks, Ellie Ennay, Muxxi, Addison James Eaton, Katie Wall, Cheryl Smith, Cale and Emereauldine Eliseo, who have all been shortlisted to appear alongside the winner.

Showcase #3: Balloon Doodle

We've got a fun challenge for you this week and it comes with a deliciously awesome prize. Take a deep breath, blow up a balloon, and sharpie the damn thing like it's nobody's business.

Then just take an incredible photo of your blown up markings and hope to get many, many loving votes, because the winner of Showcase #3 will get a year subscription to Anorak Magazine (4 issues), plus a happy activity book.

Ladies and gentleman, that's not all. Once all submissions are in, the editors of Doodlers Anonymous and Anorak will also award our favorite balloon doodles with a feature in the next issue of Anorak Magazine. Take note folks, this here is one activity you won't want to miss out on (deadline October 20th @ 11am Eastern). Read on for submission guidelines and more »
