Milk-Eyed Mender

My talented friend Meera Lee Patel has a wonderful new show on right now at The Brooklyn Collective. The show is a series of watercolours inspired by Joanna Newsom's album, Mil-Eyed Mender.

Here's Meera explaining more about her show... "As I tend to do when a certain piece of music or art strikes my interest, I listened to the album exclusively while creating these works, replaying it about thirty times. These works are infused with Newsom's unusual understanding of the world and my desire to find beauty in everything around me -- in sadness, nature, among complicated and messy terrains."

The show will be hanging in Brooklyn until the end of November. The original pieces can be purchased by emailing Meera direct, and she'll have prints for sale in her Etsy shop.

Collaboration At Its Best

100 students drew the 3,000 frames for this video. The montage of starkly different styles, techniques, and visions mesh so beautifully, so compellingly. This is collaboration at its best. Sometimes 100 heads are better than 1. Sit back and enjoy.

Music = Art = Music

If you are like me you often create late into the night accompanied by music you can get lost in and let your hands go free. I think it would be impossible for me to create without these soundscapes becoming soundtracks to each line I draw, each thought I have, each revelation and with every finished creation. Member Spotlight: Zoe Chantal

I haven't listened to Ladykillers by LUSH in over a decade, but as soon as I laid eyes on the women of Zoe Chantal the song immediately came to mind.

Graphite, gauche, watercolor, acrylic, pen, stencils, etchings; it seems her ladies are drawn with every possible medium and each with more drama and intensity than the next.

Zoe, we're glad you've joined DA. Your ladies are always welcome here.

Super Nature World

One of the many reasons why I wanted to come to Paris was to meet Kinrisu in person. I found out about her work two years ago when I saw her Myspace. The music was very lovely and she had this nice drawing for her profile picture. Then I found her blog with even more drawings, all of them done with a simple felt pen. So, yesterday we met and she gave me this really nice package with her album on a yellow cassette and a little zine that you can find on Papier Gache website. We planned to do an interview about her work, but the time was short. Well, if you listen to her music and follow her blog you will get a pretty good feeling of her work in general. Enjoy!

To My Fellow Doodlers

Here is a great little music video by Archive, the song is called System. I really love all the scribbling and the sassy choreography. Enjoy!

Hi Friends-
I am so so honored and excited to share things with you for the next month. DA has been such a huge source of inspiration to me and I just want to give a shout out to my boy OKAT, thank you so much for this amazing opportunity. I really love DA and all of the great artists that I have been exposed to, inspired by and in awe of since DA's conception.

Doodling has always been such an integral part of my life, in fact I don't know what I would do or where I would be today without it. I can remember countless classes in grade school where I would sit and attempt to take really good notes, but then low and behold the words and letters would slowly trickle and meander off into a wild ferocious sea of psychedelic doodles. I'll Take Both

A friend once asked me, "If you could have only one, music or art, which would it be?" To which I answered, "They go hand-in-hand. You can't have one without the other."

This is a perfect example of how music influences art. Ricardo Cavolo is a true doodler. You can see it all over his flickr and blog pages. He has a Singers/Bands set that makes me so very happy. And his use of color is out of this world.
