A Drawing Desk Like No Other

As a parent of two little doodlers and a daily drawer myself, I can't help but fall in love with this Kickstarter project by The Cardboard Guys. They've taken everything great about fostering creativity in a kid and magically created a drawing desk and chair made of cardboard, that's fun to build, functional to use, and best of all designed to be doodled all over. The top of the desk even comes with cubbies to store all your art supplies and built to close away when not in use.

No joke, I want one for myself. They've only got 8 days left to meet their Kickstarter goal. Support them (before it's too late) and little ones will rejoice everywhere.

Big Things Come in Small Drawings

Some ideas are just too big for humans to truly understand the scope of. Evan Lorenzen's tiny art books put them into a straightforward, bite-sized perspective, all within something the size of a thumb tack! It's light reading with heavy subject matter. The choice of ridiculously small (each project seems to get smaller) canvases to convey huge themes is ironic and entertaining. Perhaps this shows how small human accomplishments are in the grand scope of life. Or maybe complicated concepts are best understood when shown in their simplest form. Whatever the case is, I love the balance of playful and serious within these hand-sewn manuscripts.

Interstellar Drawings

I'm very much enjoying the drawings of Jason Hernandez, especially the ones themed around space travel. I love the narrative, it's as if I'm traveling between stars. The drawings generally consist of black ink on yellow paper with accents of gold paint, and the attention to detail in each image is just right. Buckle up and enjoy the cosmos.

Her Life with a Little Bit of Fiction

Paintings, drawings, words. All of it. I'm in love with Herikita's art. It speaks truths in soft colors and is quite often made-up of angled homes and rooftops, pets and insects, women and men, all of whom are sharing their awkward feelings and I just want more and more of it.

Her bio alone was enough to make me smile. Here's a small bit of my favorite part, "I work at midnight like Cinderella’s mice, almost always, when everyone is sleeping and something pops up in my mind.."

It's such a great visual.

Inside the Sketchbook of Gabriel Picolo

Since launching Doodlers Anonymous back in 2009, I've seen my share of Drawing-A-Day projects, but so rare do they ever capture my attention like this one has by Brazil based artist Gabriel Picolo.

His daily drawings are deeply intricate and scenic. How one can pull off this intense of a drawing every day for a year is beyond me. If you're a fan, like I expect you should be, follow him on Instagram for more drawn goodness.

Tumblr of the Week: Klara Grancicova

The gem we found in our Tumblr followers this week is Klara Grancicova. Her simple geometric drawings gain a surprising layer of meaning from the words she adds to them. While browsing down her blog I found myself playing a game where I would just look at the drawing and ignore the words for a moment, then see how reading the text changed my perception of it. If I had seen one of her doodles on its own somewhere, I might have just thought "ah, cool" and moved on. But seeing the cohesive chemistry between every single one of her drawings from last year up until now is ridiculously cool.

If you're addicted to tumbling as well as doodling, follow Doodlers Anonymous on Tumblr for even more daily inspiration. You might even see yourself on there!

Primal Drawings and Falling Limbs

Piotr’s work is pretty and primal. The artist's rural, folk-art sensibility is expressed in the masks and dense tribal and geometric patterns. Reminiscent of wood block prints or cave paintings, his work tells a rugged tale about nature and human nature. Visit his website for more.
