Doodling Dashing Strangers

I’ve been really into Pam Steenwijk’s portraits the past couple of days. Pam is an artist from the Netherlands who plays with details of the face in charming ways. Sometimes with cutesy blushing cheeks, other times with mysterious shadows. Not to mention the expressions! Pam nails it when it comes to drawing nuanced looks that are disarmingly sensitive. I only wish I knew the story behind these effortlessly stylish cool kids. It’s likely that the enigma is part of the aesthetic appeal! Don’t forget to check out Pam’s tumblr for more doodles of dashing strangers.

Doodles Blooming in a Sketchbook

flower doodle

I'm finding calm today as I look through annnsunn’s tumblr. The artist’s wonderfully photographed sketchbook has a simple floral theme, and they love to include the real life flower that inspired their drawing. Seeing the artwork alongside the flower that inspired it is especially enjoyable thanks to the gorgeous composition of both the drawings and the photos. It’s neat, clean, and uncomplicated. No wonder it clears my thoughts just by looking at this garden on paper.

Trippy Sketching

Some things don’t need to make sense for you to enjoy them. That’s what I’m finding out as I look through the drawings of Hatice Çiçek, a doodler from Istanbul. It’s a wild world of illustrated madness. Her drawings are rough and meandering, often leaving no space wasted on the page. The cartoonish style looks elementary at a glance, but that’s a deceptive simplicity. The warped, trippy composition of Çiçek’s sketches creatively weaves together a crazy amount of lines and patterns when you really look at it!

Only Pieces of Perfection

It always gives me a kick of inspiration to see that a superb art piece way out of my league began as a rough sketch that's closer to my level. Emokih's realistic hand drawn portraits are not doodly at all, but I can’t resist sharing the WIP photos she posts. It's so intriguing to see a portion of meticulously perfected detail surrounded by the very basics of a sketch. One little corner that she labored intensively on, while the rest is left in its bare bones. I can't help finding it more interesting than the completed pieces sometimes.
