Member Spotlight: Alice Savage

I discovered Alice's work during our Doodlebomb open call. Her submission transformed a fashion model into a surreal creature standing against tentacles and stars.

It was subtle and delicate, but it definitely caught my attention. As did the rest of her sketchbook, where there's lots of flowing long hair, female bodies and sometimes even a hint of watercolor. She lives on flickr and alicesavage.eu Welcome to DA, Alice.

Member Spotlight: Marta Spendowska

Marta's work is a blast of color. From fashion illustrations to objects, food, abstract shapes and even patterns, she somehow manages to fill each with smears and gradients that play and overlay each other almost organically.

Marta joined DA in December of 2011, you can find her at martaspendowska.com and follow her on twitter.

Member Spotlight: Jess Worby

I love when drawings interweave, have depth and overlap all over eachother. It's like layers upon layers of scribbles that equal one incredible visual story. My gut tells me that more often than not, this end result is not planned, it just happens as a consequence to sketching in a sketchbook.

This is the work of Jess Worby, a recent member of DA that I just happened upon when browsing through some of the new member profiles. His work is exactly what I describe above, take a look for yourself and definitely welcome him to the site.

Member Spotlight: Zoe Chantal

I haven't listened to Ladykillers by LUSH in over a decade, but as soon as I laid eyes on the women of Zoe Chantal the song immediately came to mind.

Graphite, gauche, watercolor, acrylic, pen, stencils, etchings; it seems her ladies are drawn with every possible medium and each with more drama and intensity than the next.

Zoe, we're glad you've joined DA. Your ladies are always welcome here.

Member Spotlight: Murray Somerville

His drawings are not cute, they're not even friendly. They are ugly, damn ugly, and yet I love every single one of them.

Murray Somerville makes ugly beautiful.

He's drawn for zines, comics, posters, t-shirts, exhibitions, windows, walls and plenty more. If you like exploding melon heads, ugly teeth, monstrous hands, and creatures with multiple eyes, then you should definitely follow all of his nonsense and weird imaginings over at his website or blog. It will kinda creep you out, but that's a good thing.

Member Spotlight: Wilmer Murillo

Wilmer lives a doodled life, one filled with fun characters, bright colors, scribbled lines and rough textures. He makes a living with strong graphic design and illustration work, but it's his spontaneously drawn stuff I love most, especially when the art lands on shoes, t-shirts, laundry detergent caps, hats and concrete walls.

Member Spotlight: Jacob Livengood

Here's a trash bin like you've never seen, drawn by Jacob Livengood for Coachella 2011. He's turned the overworked and under-appreciated trash bin into absolute gorgeousness, with thousands upon thousands of colored marks and dots that adorn all 365 degrees of the container. Ha! Anyone else want to march down to city hall to turn all our public trash cans into works of art?

Welcome to DA Jacob!
