Member Spotlight: Marie Lemaistre

I love it when I click through the members of our community and discover someone's work that really catches my attention.

Like many of us, Marie Lemaistre finds inspiration in films, cartoons, the music in the streets, and in her dreams. Her take on drawing is to keep a spontaneous expression of ideas, emotions and imagination going, while simultaneously trying not to censor or hesitate along the way. It works wonders in her illustrations and is just the right philosophy for any doodler out there.

Member Spotlight: Lauren Salgado

This is pretty cool. I recently learned that a doodle addict I follow on Instagram has been a member of the Doodlers Anonymous community since she was 14 years-old. She's now 19. Wow, I often forget I've been running this website that long. She writes in to tell me she's been obsessed with designing and drawing since, and that becomes quite clear when you look at her sketchbook that's filled with pages of lines, patterns and shapes.

What I like best is that each doodle looks like it could easily translate into a textile print, for use in home or apparel design.

Lauren, thanks for being a fan for so long and keep building on your talent. You can follow her over on Tumblr or Instagram.

Member Spotlight: Juan Pez

I'm really digging the workspace pics form Juan Pez's desk. His table-top is messy and covered with ink, brushes, scraps, markers, tape, rulers…barely enough room for the drawing itself. And I love that his work is just the same, a mishmash of sloppy characters and comic-like illustrations.

Get a full view of his images on flickr or follow his more refined stuff over at juanpez.com

Member Spotlight: Alvaro Diaz-Rubio

What luck. Here I am digging around our website for someone to feature when I stumble upon the work of Alvaro Diaz-Rubio and quickly discover he's an incredible artist and illustrator from South Florida that actually studied right down the street from our studio. It's a nice coincidence when that happens.

Alvaro's art takes me back to a time of vintage comics and being 13 years old trading gnarly Garbage Pail Kids cards outside the mall's convenience store. It's clear he draws all day long and even claims he'll most likely doodle on the inside of his coffin. His illustrations have appeared in publications like the Village Voice, LA Weekly and the New Times. Help me welcome Alvaro to Doodlers Anonymous and you can always check out more of his work at his website, Operation Underwear.

For something extra special, scroll down for a great time-lapse video of Alvaro drawing a quirky rendition of his lineage.

Member Spotlight:
Daniel Jamie Williams

All of the eyes in Daniel's drawn characters are deep, and almost completely lost in sadness. They're consistent throughout his work, holding your stare and carrying you from one piece to the next.

Click on through, there's a really great time-lapse video of Daniel working his watercolor pencils after the fold.

Member Spotlight: Kerby Rosanes

Kerby Rosanes is a doodle force to be reckoned with. No joke, the man must go through markers like I go through cups of coffee. His style is overwhelming as he completely smothers page after page with funny characters, monsters, objects, and words.

I was first introduced to his work when he sent in a submission to our second coloring book, which we gladly accepted. Follow this doodle maniac over on his blog Sketchy Stories (that updates almost daily).

Member Spotlight: Mason McFee

Holy crap, I just spent too much time on Mason's flickr site. I got lost in the randomness of his doodles and how they seem to land on any damn thing he comes across. His drawings are loose and unpretentious, free to roam, with layers of goofiness but end in an almost perfect layout and composition.

Mason, let's go have a beer, and then draw me something to hang on my wall.
