Be Creative. Get Noticed.

H&M got a hold of us last week and told us about their "Your Art Here" contest, and now we'd like to share it with you. It's a fun contest, with a NYC theme. I just moved to New York. It is a city that has so much to offer, incredible energy and inspiration all around. So the theme is perfect. And I urge you to enter.

Now for the rules: Do something with a New York City theme, in your artistic style. The H&M on Fifth Ave. will give you their store window to use as your blank canvas. They'll fly you out to the city so you can install it yourself. And there are other goodies involved. Get more of the details here.

Think about it. A huge blank canvas for the world to see. And you can doodle away on it to your heart's content. Do it! You have until Oct. 5 to submit your piece.

Fax Ex-Machina

Four Brazilian Artists. Four UK Artists. Three fax machines. One exhibition called "Fax Ex-Machina."

Earlier this month, the KK Outlet in the UK and POP Gallery in São Paulo simultaneously hosted a live art exchange between Brazilian and UK artists through the use of the fax machine. "High taxes and blindsided customs laws make it impractical to import and export art in and out of Brazil. Using the lo-fi means of fax machines we aim to avoid these extortionate charges and showcase young talent in and outside of Brazil."

The participating artists included the likes of Ramon Martins, Eduardo Recife, Elisa Sassi, Carlos Dias, Andrew Clark, Billie Jean, Mcbess and Jimmy Turrell.

Great concept. Great art. Simply great all around. Take a look at some of the photos from this extra cool event.

Sea Legs

Our good friends Josh and Colby, otherwise known as illustration team Jolby, are putting on a show of new works with photographer Ashley Forette at Together Gallery in Portland, Oregon. Opening reception is tomorrow night (February 25th), but the show is scheduled until March 20th and will explore the legends, mythology, and superstitions held by sailors of the 1800's through a mix of illustration and photography.

If you live anywhere near the City of Roses, get your butt over to the show. Above is a teaser of what you can expect and you could always take another glance of our feature on Jolby, which documented a week in their life.

Open Call / DA Coloring Book

Some exciting news! Doodlers Anonymous is printing a kids coloring book and this is our open call for submissions. Deadline is December 4th, 2009 December 2nd, 2009 and anyone can participate.

Maybe it's not so much a book as it is an over-sized zine. The page count has yet to be determined, but we want all of you to participate. The deadline is right around the corner, so go on and get started. Keep the art kid friendly, sized at 8.5x11 inches and one-color (black). Accepted submissions will be featured on DA and receive credit on their respective pages and in the table of contents.

Nick White

Nick White, combines imagery scavenged from Flea Markets, car boots and charity shops with an injection of sophisticated marks from a pen which he owns. I thought this post would tie in nicely with his current book launch and exhibition. The lucky swine. Buy a ticket to the Nick White carnival before all the hot seats sell out. He also has a great beard.

Rainboliatric

Rainboliatric is a project and now exhibition celebrating the unique artwork for the release of 'Propeller,' a song by a band named Tubelord. The concept was simple. 500 blank vinyl sleeves. Illustrators and artists from all over. A new single. Every sleeve unique.

Think of the song as their own personal soundtrack while creating these sleeves - all unprecedented interpretations, all exceptionally different and wonderful.

Morgan Goes Pacific

I just found out that Morgan Blair will be having an art show in San Diego. For those of you lucky enough to be in Southern California on August 14 and 15, go check out the inaugural exhibition of Sezio's artist exchange program where Morgan will have various installations and will also complete a large-scale painting. It will be held at Luce Loft and is appropriately titled "Brain Glamor." If you go, take pictures and send them our way. Also, know that I will be jealous.

For a refresher on Morgan, click here or visit her site again.
