Sidewalk Scribble

Animator/Filmmaker Peter Lowey from Australia does an incredible job on this short film. Give it a play, I've already watched it three times this morning.

We're All In This Together

Process is everything to me. It's much of the reason why I started Doodlers Anonymous. I love seeing behind the scenes and early thoughts of artists, writers, any creative for that matter. Getting a glimpse of sketchbook pages no one was meant to see, or storyboards that show development of what worked or didn't work is many times more inspiring than the final outcome.

Three Legged Legs has done an incredible job of documenting their collaboration with Droga5 to bring to life an animated ad spot for Method Cleaners and Virgin America. The spot itself is a minute-long animated ride in the sky with illustrated characters and exaggerated stereotypes. Their process of going "…from a super quick shitty thumbnail doodle-fest, to a more elaborate After Effects animatic," is so wonderful to see come to life, and you'll love the end result.

Here are some of the process doodles, but make sure to watch the rough cut animation and more at their site.

He Thinks A Lot

A sad film about Gregor by Petra Zlonoga. I think it's perfectly drawn and executed for her first hand-drawn film. I especially like the squiggly lines that turn to thoughts, pets, and even green cars.

Viliam

This is an amazing animation created by Veronika Obertova. In her own words, this is "a story of Viliam, who lives his own animated life within the real world. Childish fun turns into a problem, the problem becomes a solution. No solution is perfect though. "

Wonderfully heartfelt, I personally think we all have a bit of Viliam in us - that slight antisocial charm, that need to always have a pencil in hand, that ability to be content with life the way you see fit...Simply put, you'll love watching this.

Wall Draw Videos

It's Friday and it's been a busy week for us here at DA. It's 11 am, the beer is flowing and we are prepping for our tent at Launch Arte Miami tomorrow. If you are in the South Florida area, stop on by and get yourself a coloring book and some other goodies.

We're feeling inspired so we thought we'd inspire you with some delicious treats as well. This morning I scourged the internet for some videos of people drawing on walls. I can watch them continuously and they amaze me every time. Seeing each drawing come together is my favorite part. Watch the videos, then stop lollygagging and get on your own wall drawing submission for our most recent showcase. It's the weekend. Just sayin'.

Under and Over

We are all doodlers. No matter the background, no matter the profession. Give us a pen and paper and we'll scribble, notate, and draw our way through any topic or, like Vi Hart, through any insipid lecture.

Hart is a serial doodler and self-proclaimed recreational mathemusician. She has recently created a series of videos showcasing doodle exercises that will cause your jaw to drop and question your own intellectual prowess.

The videos are accompanied by Hart's rapid-fire narration about how mathematical concepts and theories can be expressed in doodle games.

There is no doubt Hart is a creative fiend-- the world and ivory tower need more like her. Watch Snakes + Graphs (above), or click out for Stars and Binary Trees.

The Making of…

This is a time-lapse video of Pat Perry creating the above artwork over the course of a few weeks, using acrylic paint, ink, a brush and lots and lots of talent. Visit his site or watch another one of his intricate drawings in time-lapse video.

My favorite part is when he spills the color over the sketch and then begins to fill in the details. Kudos Mr. Perry.
