POV: The Sketchbook as a Center Point

Through his beautifully-executed point of view sketches, Thomas Cian takes us on the road with him. We step into his skin, with the sketchbook resting on our lap and pencil in hand, and visit a classroom, a café, or a car with intimacy and familiarity. We have entered his personal space and it is welcoming and warm. And somehow the sketchbook – as center point – seems to create the scene instead of merely recording it.

Tumblr of the Week: Gwion Christmas

Gwion Christmas’s drawings are replete with images of feverish expression. Communication, or rather frustrated communication, is everywhere. Language seems confused or interrupted as if there is something important to convey, that’s unheard. There are lines from mouths that circle and intersect but never make it from speaker to audience, there is a conversation in shapes, and there are detached speech bubbles littered throughout. As a lover of expression and a lover of words, I love Gwion. You will too.

Inside the Sketchbook of Pat Perry

I've been following Pat Perry's work since 2010, when I posted a time-lapse video of him creating a beautiful layered painting over the course of a few weeks (you can watch it here).

Today I want to focus your attention on his sketchbooks. They are so intricate and detailed, it's really incredible how much goes into each spread. His drawings are so much more than just sketches of what may be in front of him, they are scenes that will capture your attention and seem to be alive, almost breathing with life. You can see plenty more over on his website: patperry.net

This Is Some Awesome Visual Stimuli

I just got my ass kicked by the chaos of color that is the world of Leanna Perry. My eyes are still twitching and now fully stimulated from browsing through her image feed. I love the bold palette she uses to impact each line streaking across the page. Blah, blah, blah, never mind what I have to say, the work speaks for itself. Look »

There's A Heavy Weight On My Shoulders

When I look through our DA Flickr group, the work of Ann Pajuväli always catches my attention. I can't help it, it's unique and modest. Something about the angle and crop of her drawings that really strike me with emotion. I especially love her collection of drawn people with stones for heads.

There's Always A Reason To Be Pretty

Long-time friends, Nophar Haimovitz (fashion/jewelry designer) and Hodaya Louis (fashion illustrator) have collaborated for the image launch of Reason To Be Pretty's latest collection of jewelry, and it's a match made in heaven.

Their styles blend perfectly, take a closer look and you'll notice how subtle and elegant Hodaya's illustrated women wear the photographed jewelry of Nophar's designs. It's so great to see two different forms of art come together like this.

Celebrate their work by visiting reasontobepretty.com where you can shop the full collection and be sure to check out more of Hodaya's work over at hodayalouis.com.
