Drawn Narration

I love these story-driven artworks by Dave Zackin. Of course it's the colors and bold lines that first catch my attention, but then I quickly get caught up in the hand-lettering and drawn narratives. I'd gamble to say that even the most humdrum day in my life would look fascinating if documented like this.

Drawn Wallpapers for the Digital Age:
Art by überkraaft, #2

Matt Williams (aka überkraaft) rocks red and black lines for our second drawn wallpaper in the series. Matt's been in the habit of doodling since the age of three and now resides in the U.K. as a freelance illustrator, designer and all-around creative.

This wallpaper looks amazing on my iPad. Download it today and you'll see what I mean.

Brrrrring... Brrrrring...

For many of us, drawing while on the phone is exactly how we got into the habit of doodling. I know that for me, I can hardly last on a call for two minutes if I don't have a pen and paper around to scribble on.

The following is a series of drawings made by DZO Olivier from France, all made without much thinking, during a handful of different phone conversations. And be sure to visit his portfolio for a taste of what he can do when he's not distracted by chit-chat.

Hey Doodlers! Doodle for Blik

We're pleased as pie that our friends at Blik are sponsoring Doodlers Anonymous again in their search for amazing illustrators. It's a win-win: selected DA artists get a sweet gig (cha-ching), and Blik gets to collaborate with some of the most stupendous creatives around. (Us? biased?) See for yourself. Below are some images of the current project -- wall installations for the groundbreaking LA radio station KCRW. DA n' Blik = milk n' honey.

Interested? Submit your website link to [email protected] and we'll get back to you, if you and a project make a good fit.

Scott Flora, Blik's co-founder, describes the project in his own words...

We are incredibly inspired by the artwork created by Doodlers Anonymous artists from as far away as the UK and Germany for a collaborative BLIK Studio custom project. We are working with the groundbreaking LA radio station KCRW which reaches 500,000 listeners each week and is credited with introducing such artists as Beck, Coldplay and Norah Jones to the world. Together with Jim Bradshaw, Greg Kletsel, Diana Kohne, Muxxi, Olly Gibbs and Sophie Roach, BLIK is creating art for interior and exterior walls of the stations' offices and studio. The project is currently underway and is slated to be installed and completed this Spring.

Incredible! We can't wait to see pics of the real thing installed.

February's Guest Contributor:
Amaia Arrazola

This is a fun announcement! For the month of February, Amaia Arrazola will join the Doodlers Anonymous team as a guest contributor to the blog. Starting tomorrow she'll be sharing with us inspirations, books, zines, artists and all the things she's completely head over heels in love with.

I first fell for Amaia's work back in November of 2010, when I wrote about her drawn suitcase (a must see). She's been one of my favorite since, and has recently been featured on the last page of our second coloring book (as seen above -- get it here)!

If you are new to Amaia's handy work, please take the time to get to know her. Pencil, ink, markers, thread… drawn all over paper, fabric, walls, you name it, she's done it. Check out her portfolio and blog or follow her along on twitter and instagram. Welcome to DA, Amaia.

An Attempt to Draw Everything

James Gulliver Hancock, an illustrator from Australia (now living in New York), seems to be on a quest to draw and catalog almost everything that comes his way, from bicycles and snow to scooters and mountain tops. He's even launched a micro-site titled All The Buildings In New York, where you'll find them sorted by building type or borough.

I especially love the compositions where he stacks each of the elements onto one large sheet of paper. Here's hoping he keeps this effort going forever.

Drawn Wallpapers for the Digital Age:
Art by Muxxi, #1

Unless you've printed this website on some paper, you are no doubt reading this on some sort of digital device. Maybe it sits on your desk or lap, or maybe it's small enough to be held in one hand or two, no matter the case, you deserve a beautifully drawn background to greet you every time you turn it on.

That's where we come in. We as in Doodlers Anonymous and the artists who've been invited to share their art with you.

Our first wallpaper is hand-drawn by Guatemalan artist Muxxi. A long time friend of DA, Muxxi shares with us her surreal world and fantastical characters. Download it free and make it part of your everyday. If you’d like to be notified when the next one is released, sign up to our newsletter.
