Angela Fox is an artist based in Texas, with a very interesting style. Since I discovered her, she immediately caught my attention and made me think, what could be her inspiration to create such beautiful drawings and collages, what's the story behind her works? So having so many questions in my head I decided to talk a little bit with her and this is what she kindly told me:

For several years now, my work has been influenced by this passage from William T. Vollman’s Whores for Gloria:

"For we must all build our worlds around us, bravely or dreamily, as long as we can shelter ourselves from the rain, walling ourselves in gorgeously."

Much of my work explores these notions of literal and figurative walls, as a means of protection/self-defense and as a way of establishing ideal communities.

Drawings of villages and houses appear as isolated but welcoming utopias and address the idea of collectivity. Collages of figures surface from their cocoon-like, protective shell of layered garments. Tribes of female characters pack their belongings, camp out, and prepare for voyages—focused on fleeing one world so that they may create another.

Brilliant don’t you think? If you wanna see more of her amazing work visit her website.

If not, I'm very pleased to introduce to you this very talented Japanese artist. His drawings are composed by a bunch of very small characters, cartoons and shapes, he mixes them with different tones to create the volume of his amazing pieces, entirely made with ink on paper. His masterpieces recreate classical art, greek sculptures and famous paintings. If you are a detail junkie you will definitely enjoy a visit to his website, his work is simply unbelievable.

That's still true, only since then she's better defined her style and grown her playing field to include murals, vector illustrations, and awesome collaborations with like-minded artists.

She's also left her mark all over DA, from showcase submissions to participating in practically every drawn giveaway we've ever done. We love her surreal characters and strange worlds and have now welcomed her to contribute to Doodlers Anonymous for the month of February.
She's waving hello, so be sure to wave back and take some time to visit her growing portfolio and online shop of art prints.

Drawn words are (by far) what fill the pages of my sketchbook more than any thing else. I love the lines, curves and detail that go into making each letter form. It's something that I will always lean on, especially on the days where I have a creative block with what subject matter to draw. So to get the momentum going I just pick a letter from the alphabet and bring it to life.

Mary Kate McDevitt does this with phenomenal skill. She's a full time illustrator whose done work for some big time clients, and now has a daily project where she draws one single letter from the alphabet. You'll do yourself a favor to check her site often for inspiration. Below are letters Y, Q, C, G, and U drawn by Miss McDevitt.

Oh wow. It's hard to believe it's been over two years since we printed our first coloring book. I still remember the day we set the pages loose and the kids went wild coloring them in (view the colorific photos). The look on the kids' faces were priceless, as they added so much brightness to the bold lines set by folks like Nate Williams, John Malta, Gemma Correll and 26 other artists.

We're thrilled to announce that we are finally ready to print our second volume. This is an open call for submissions, we want everyone to participate. The page count has yet to be determined, but we definitely expect it to include more artists and pages than our previous run (which you can buy here).

If your submission is selected, it will be featured on Doodlers Anonymous and receive credit on its respective page and in the table of contents. You will of course also get a copy of the coloring book mailed to you.

We are setting an aggressive deadline of January 31st. Your art must be one-color (black), sized at 8.5" x 11" and submitted to cb2@doodlersanonymous.com as a hi-res JPG (300dpi). Now go draw.

A book of quotes, lyrics and clever drawings on the topics we all love to hate or hate that we love. Lee Crutchley makes drawing fun again and we've got 144 pages to prove it.

Lee is a doodler, and he's been one since the age of 14. He's been posting drawn words on his tumblr blog for the past couple years and many of us have turned fans of the quirky, often comical and very relevant sharpie scribbles. Now they've been published into a book and we've got a signed copy for one of you to keep.

To play along, leave a comment below with your favorite quote from a movie (don't forget to also credit the film). We'll collect them all into a hat and pull one lucky winner. Comment by Thursday, January 5th and we'll announce the winner the next day.
