Vicarious Doodlers on the Train

I'm not a big fan of public transport (it kind of scares me), but today I found a reason to love it. Vicarious doodlers. The people that ever so stealthy peak over your shoulder to see what you're scribbling in that notebook. Today I could feel so many passengers sneaking in for a quick snoop, maybe hoping to be my peek-hour muse. It made me giggle to catch their eye as they snapped their sight back to someplace less intimate, like out the window.

I'd like to start ripping mine out to leave on the seat as I run off the train. And you know how some restaurants have their tables covered in butchers paper? What about train interiors lined entirely with butchers paper, crayons hanging from every seat....

Anyone else got some ideas for making public transport more doodler-friendly? We could start a petition and all sign in the margins.

There something voyeuristic about doodling in public spaces -- the thrill of someone catching a peek as you fondle the pen and paper.

I think it would be awesome to get on a subway car and cover one of the ads with paper and just draw.

We meet in bars and all doodle together, between 2 and 12 of us, all starting doodles and passing them on to the next person. It raises more than an eyebrow from time to time. People don't expect to see that sort of thing. If it weren't for the motion of the train etc I'd be all for it. We might stick to the bars though, more to do with the relaxed atmosphere (alcohol) than anything else.

I've just compiled a few months worth of train doodles. The trains I get are very shonky indeed, I quite like the challenge of maintaining a straight line. Picking the right momment. A doodle carriage would be good.

i do know what you mean, ppl do get intrigue when you're head on stuck behind a book..doodling...specially in public areas..cafe...restaurants...any open space i suppose.
